The view of peoples towards women throughout the ages,
whether in the first primitive societies or advanced societies, has been
keen to fully obtain their rights in all aspects of life, in addition to
achieving equality between them and men.
Women's rights and freedoms are part of universal human rights
that are inseparable from and indivisible, and their participation with
men on an equal footing at all international and national levels is a
goal that the international community seeks to achieve, in addition to
eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence against women.
Under the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq of 2005, the Iraqi
legislator followed a distinctive approach in stipulating women’s
rights and freedoms and preventing violence and discrimination
against them in any form, in addition to granting them equality with
men in enjoying civil, economic and cultural rights, and also
guaranteeing them political participation.
